The Lehigh Trail’s long, level corridor has an industrial explanation. Palm Coast’s trailhead guide says the 6.7-mile route occupies an old railroad spur that connected the Lehigh Portland Cement Company with the Florida East Coast Railroad.
Today, the trail parallels the Lehigh Canal for much of its length and passes through the Town Center and Graham Swamp area. The city’s trailhead at 1350 Belle Terre Parkway adds parking, restrooms, dog-park areas and community gardens beside the Southern Recreation Center.

That mix makes it possible to plan a modest outing rather than treating the entire route as a distance challenge. Choose a turnaround point that suits your group, and check the route before setting off.
The ownership detail is useful: Flagler County owns and maintains the trail itself. Palm Coast directs visitors to the county for current trail maintenance and closure information, while its own page explains the trailhead amenities.
Look at the corridor as both a route and a remnant. A line once built to move industrial materials now provides a different kind of connection across the community.
